Step 1
The U.S. citizen files a petition with USCIS to request the K-1 visa, demonstrating the legitimacy of the relationship.
Step 2
Once approved by USCIS, the case is forwarded to the National Visa Center (NVC) for further processing.
Step 3
The foreign fiancé(e) attends an interview at the U.S. consulate in their home country, providing required documents and proof of the relationship.
Step 4
Upon approval, the K-1 visa is issued, allowing the fiancé(e) to legally enter the United States.
Step 5
The couple must marry within 90 days of the fiancé(e)’s arrival, fulfilling the visa requirements.
Step 6
After the marriage, the beneficiary can file Form I-485 to apply for a Green Card and obtain permanent residency in the U.S.
